Get the most from your Apple Silicon Mac

Go64 shows you which of your applications already run natively on your Apple Silicon Mac and which ones still need to be upgraded.

Apps may be Intel-only, Apple Silicon-only or Universal (meaning they run natively on either processor). For best performance on an Apple Silicon Mac, your apps should be Apple Silicon or Universal.

Prepare for a macOS upgrade that won't run some apps

macOS 27 Golden Gate will be the last version of macOS that will run Intel-based applications. Before upgrading to macOS 28 next year, use Go64 to make sure that all of your apps are Universal or Apple Silicon-based.

Exactly which apps will stop working in macOS 28 and why?

Any app that is built to run only on Intel processors will not run in macOS 28.

In macOS 27 and earlier, a technology called Rosetta is used to translate Intel-based apps to run on Apple Silicon. Apple built Rosetta to ease the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, but performing a translation obviously exacts a performance penalty since extra work has to be done to run the application.

With macOS 28, Apple is ending support for Rosetta – which isn't unreasonable, given that it will have been 7 years since the introduction of the first Apple Silicon Mac. As a result, you need to make sure that you've upgraded any Intel-only apps to run natively on Apple Silicon.

So how do you find incompatible apps on your Mac?

1. Download Go64.
2. Double-click the downloaded .zip file to extract the application.
3. Double-click the Go64 application.
4. After you click through the launch screens, Go64 will scan your Mac and list all of your applications.
5. Once the scan has finished, look in the Architecture or 64 bit columns to identify Intel or 32-bit apps.
