A new public beta of Default Folder X 4.5 is available, resolving a number of issues that have been occurring when running under Mac OS 10.8.2 “Mountain Lion.” It fixes problems with Default Folder X appearing intermittently or refusing to respond to mouse clicks when you use it. It also properly accesses iCloud items, adds support for additional applications, and resolves a number of bugs.
Complete details and download links are on the Default Folder X Beta Testing page.

Still problems! Despite loading at login it often switches itself OFF for no apparent reason? When ON it usually “sort of” works with TextEdit, Bean, Mariner Write, Uno, Text Wrangler, iCalamus, iTextExpress but it can’t be guaranteed. It usually doesn’t with Pages, Mail, SnapNDrag, iStudioPub., Nisus Writer, Firefox 15.0.1+Pixlr Grabber, Libre Office.
It does find the correct Default folder for an app. where it’s been specified but will not enable another choice to be made as Default Folder X’s menus do not appear when their icons are clicked (when they do appear!). The grayed outlines of Finder windows, when they do show, cannot be picked up and applied. And how does one turn off the Spotlight comments window which pops up?
Oh, dear, what has happened? At the moment it’s a mess.
A user of many years of Default Folder from the days of OS7/8/9 to OSX 5, 7 and 8.
It sounds like you’ve got a corrupted Default Folder X preference file. Please download and run this AppleScript:
http://www.stclairsoft.com/download/DeleteDefaultFolderXPrefs.zip
It should fix the problems you’re seeing.
No difference. With the aid of “Find any File” I’d already totally stripped out any file with “stclair”, “defaultfolder” and “default folder” including the hidden one “.com.stclairsoft” in ~/Library/Application Support and installed a fresh copy of v4.5b8.
I also notice that, after setting up the Default Folder settings, when I go to close Preferences it doesn’t respond and needs a forced quit.
No other signs of strange behaviour apart from that with Default Folder!
I’ve replied to you via email so I can get more information and have your issue correctly tracked in our support system. As far as I can tell, you either haven’t run the AppleScript I pointed you to, haven’t restarted since installing version 4.5b8, or have something running on your system that’s interfering with Default Folder X in some way. Please follow up to my email.
