Ok, here’s where things are. You’ll notice a couple of unfinished bits in the screenshots – the menu prefs are missing the bottom half, which allows you to custom configure Default Folder X’s menu in the menubar. And the appearance style in the Open & Save prefs is grayed out because I haven’t finished the “minimal” toolbar appearance. Those will come after we’re in public beta – I don’t see either as critical to getting it into your hands.
Functionally things are in good shape. I’ve still got a good-sized To-Do list, but what’s there has been working well for the 30 person test crew who’ve been using it. To be perfectly frank, I’m a bit sleep deprived and feel I need a couple of days to methodically go over everything and weed out any issues, so I’m looking at next week for a public beta release. The last thing I want to do is put something crappy out there that’s going to cut into your productivity and generate lots of email for me (which cuts into my productivity too!)
Thanks for being so patient – it’s been a long haul on this one.
– Jon
Thanks for the update! When El Capitan first came out, I was thinking, “So I’ll have to wait a little bit before v5 comes out – so what?” Now I’ve realized how much I miss Default Folder X. It’s probably the single most important productivity enhancer for me on the Mac.
But having said that, please get some rest! As I’ve recently learned, you can’t do much without your health.
Default Folder X is invaluable. I look forward to upgrading when you are ready. Thank you.
I have to echo what MJ has said, Default Folder is without doubt the cornerstone to the perfect workflow on the Mac. Since El Capitan was released I’ve dabbling with another well know Finder replacement app but all it’s done is left me longing for DF to come back and it’s the main reason why I haven’t upgraded to 10.11 on my other Mac.
I shall wait patiently for the return as I’m sure the rest of the DF community will be happy to.
I second every word M J wrote!
Looking forward to help testing.
I have used Default Folder for a long long time — since v1 or v2, and it became the only software whose updates I would install without delay and without worry that it would harbor a nasty bug.
Thus I, too, look forward to v5, but want Jon to keep his health and sanity.
And I give heartfelt thanks for a wonderful product, giving years and years of valued service.
Ditto. I’m holding of upgrading to El Capitan until DFX 5 is ready.
Keep the good stuff coming, and thanx for the update. I’m rooting for ya! And I’m quite sure I’m not the only one….
Wish I could be more original but I must just echo what others have said. if I realized how much I’d miss DF, I NEVER would have upgraded to ElCap. Even the issues with Mail and iCal are less impactful than the loss of this tool. I feel crippled.
Keep up the good work Jon! (but don’t kill yourself).
Keep on keeping on Jon. This is the most valuable utility I’ve ever used on my Mac and as M J said earlier you really miss it when it’s gone.
Searching for a file buried on a server in hundreds of subfolders is an absolute nightmare whereas with the boomerang feature you’re where you should be instantly. An absolute no brainer.
Get some sleep fellah! We look forward to it’s arrival.
Just wanted to add to the thank you’s. The progress updates are much appreciated!
you’re awesome. Can’t wait for the update.
Finally! http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/beta.html Let me know how it works for you!
Dancing in the streets – smiles from ear to ear – productivity returns. THANK YOU Jon
